ABOUT US

Thank you for visiting the website for Maddie's Mission. When we decided to start fostering in 2012, our initial goal was to hopefully give a child a safe, nurturing home for, what we thought would be, a temporary period. Madison came to us in August of 2013 through the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families. Maddie was two years old and unable to speak but a few words -  a sweet, innocent little girl who was born into a life of poverty and substance abuse.  At that time, we did not realize how our lives were about to change, nor were we prepared to love this child as completely or as quickly as we did.

Our fostering journey although overall very positive, was at times, a painful one. After a very emotional year, in October of 2014, Madison became an official member of our family and we legally adopted her. She has been a gift and has enriched our lives in more ways than we can express.

Along our journey, we learned a lot about the foster care system. We were made aware of the shockingly large number of children and families that are in need of help and support. In 2017, we founded Maddie's Mission, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to help advocate for this population. Our inaugural Maddie’s Mission event raised over $20,000 which we gave to the Robert F. Kennedy Children’s Action Corp. The following year, in addition to RFK Children's Action Corp, we also raised awareness and funds for the Wonderfund: a private, nonprofit  that directly serves children who receive services from the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF). The Wonderfund provides monetary and material support, access to emergency aid, transitional necessities, as well as enrichment opportunities. In 2019 and in 2020, thanks to the support and generosity of so many, our events raised close to $20,000 which we gave to these two amazing organizations.

Please join us as we strive to achieve the goals of Maddie’s Mission, seeking to educate others about children in foster care and to raise funds to help support the efforts of RFK Children's Action Corp and the Wonderfund.

Thank you,

The Geller family
